Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine’s “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” 2010

Spring is here which means it’s time once again for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine’s largest fundraiser of the year – the 2010 Bowl for Kids’ Sake!  This year’s event promises to be the biggest ever, with more than 150 teams and 600+ bowlers expected!  This event raises approximately 30% of BBBSMCM’s operating revenues, and our goal is to raise more than $62,000.  These proceeds will be used to provide caring, responsible mentors to children in Knox, Lincoln and Waldo Counties through our Community-Based and School-Based Youth Mentoring Programs.  In 2010, BBBSMCM has served 310 youth in the tri-county area.

We are counting on businesses and individuals in the tri-county area to help us reach this goal.  Here’s how you can join in the fun and support local youth mentoring programs:   

·       Become a Team Captain and form a team of 4-5 bowlers among co-workers, friends and family, then have each bowler solicit pledges to support your team.  Once your team is formed, call Cathy Hardy at 593-0380 to receive your pledge sheets and schedule your bowling venue and time.  We encourage each bowler to raise at least $50 in pledges.  Those who raise $100 will be entered in a raffle drawing to win some great prizes and those who raise $250 or more will also be eligible to win the grand prize.  A complete list of prizes will be emailed to all team captains in early April.  You may sign up to bowl on one of these dates:

• May 5 (Wed.) – 4 – 7 pm at Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport
• May 8 (Sat.) – 10 am – 2 pm at All Play Family Center in Waldoboro
• May 9 (Sun.) – 10 am – 2 pm at All Play Family Center in Waldoboro               
• May 12 (Wed.) 4 – 7 pm at Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport
• May 15 (Sat.) 10 am – 2 pm at Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport
• May 16 (Sun.) – 10 am to 2 pm  at Point Lookout Lanes in Northport

BBBSMCM will email all team captains instructions about how to solicit and record their pledges online, quickly and easily.  Pledges paid in cash or by check are also gladly accepted.  All pledges must be turned in on the date you bowl.

Each team will have 1 hour of bowling, and team members should show up 15 minutes prior to scheduled bowling time to turn in pledge sheets, cash and checks and receive t-shirt.

·       Pledge money to support a bowler or team when asked. If you’d rather not bowl yourself, you can pledge a friend or co-worker.  Or just make a check payable to BBBSMCM to support the event!

·       Become a sponsor for the event.  Sponsorship opportunities range from a Major Sponsor ($2,500); to an Event Sponsor ($1,000); or an Event Supporter ($500 to sponsor a double lane or $275 to sponsor a single lane). 

·       Donate a prize for the event.  We need raffle prizes to encourage bowlers to raise $100 or $250, plus smaller prizes to give away to lucky bowlers throughout the event.

·       Volunteer to work at the event.  Extra hands are needed to help with set-up and clean-up before and after the event; welcome and direct bowlers; work at the registration table and serve as cashiers to tabulate and record pledges received.  Bowling venues are:  Point Lookout Lanes in Northport; Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport; and All Play Family Entertainment Center in Waldoboro.  Please call us at 593-0380 if you can help.
